1. Install noncombustible roof coverings & screening
  • Choose Class A roofing materials for the best fire resistance. Install noncombustible screening with a mesh size no greater than 1/4 inch to cover the fireplace chimney, the attic vents, eave vents, and the underside of above ground decks. Gutters and downspouts must be made of noncombustible materials.
2. Create a defensible space around your home
  • A minimum of 30 feet of defensible space must be established around your home. If your wildfire risk is high or extreme, defensible space should be increased up to 100 feet. Remove all fuels that can lead flames to your home such as dead vegetation and stored gas cans.
3. Identify an emergency water supply within 1000 feet of your home
  • Examples include fire hydrant, swimming pool, lake, or emergency storage tank.
