(Tallahassee, FL) – The nonprofit Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH)®, FEMA and the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) are now accepting registrations for four (4) free QuakeSmart “Earthquake” and Ready Business “Power Outage” disaster preparedness workshops for building officials, businesses, corporations, engineers, emergency managers, homebuilders, leaders, manufacturers, nonprofits, organizations, policymakers, public officials, risk managers, and small businesses across the U.S.  
Attendees will receive streamlined business continuity planning and mitigation project plans with simple, step-by-step instructions to help reduce risk and protect employees, clients, customers, and communities. The workshops include a free luncheon with a keynote presentation featuring experts and leaders who will address disaster resilient public policy from the federal, state, local, and private perspective.

Memphis Featured Speakers – Dr. Christine Powell, Center for Earthquake Research and Information at the University of Memphis, will discuss a new study conducted with the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) to better understand the cause and frequency of earthquakes in the Central U.S. and Richard W. Howe, P.E., Structural and Building Performance Consultant will address the history and status of seismic building codes in Memphis.

Featured Speakers – Eric Letvin, Deputy Assistant Administrator for Mitigation, National Flood Insurance and Mitigation Administration and recent White House Director of Hazard Mitigation and Risk Reduction Policy with the National Security Council will discuss building codes, and explore disaster resilience incentives and policies. USGS Research Geophysicist Thomas L. Pratt will address the risk and likely outcomes of an earthquake in the Northeast U.S.
